As lovers of the great outdoors, most Australians own a few different styles of hats, or headwear. But apart from being a wardrobe staple, headwear can also complete a uniform and make a great promotional product with its potential for high-impact branding at a low price point.
So, which style do you choose? Baseball, trucker, bucket, wide brim, beanie? That depends on purpose of course, but fashion preferences, sizing and logo suitability are important considerations too.
Here’s our “heads-up” on choosing the right headwear for your organisation.
The classic baseball cap
If you want a crowd-pleasing style to suit all ages, you can’t go past the baseball style cap. Our popular cotton options include the Heavy Brushed Cotton Sandwich Peak Cap and the Premium Soft Cotton Sandwich Peak Cap.
Both caps have structured 6 panel designs, pre-curved peaks and cotton sweatbands, but the Heavy Brushed Cotton cap has a fabric strap with gunmetal buckle and tuck-in return, while the Premium Soft Cotton option features a velcro closure.
Like its name indicates, the Heavy Brushed Cotton cap is made from a heavyweight cotton for durability. Premium Soft Cotton caps are made from a lighter weight soft cotton which makes them extremely comfortable.
If you’re after a hat suitable for running, sailing and other outdoor sports, the Sport Lite Cap is ideal. With an unstructured design, padded cotton sweatband and velcro closure, this cap is made from lightweight, quick drying polyester.
Most of the cap styles we offer are stocked in a huge range of plain, two tone and even 3 colour designs. Photos of each style and the colour combinations available are all shown in the Headwear section of our website. We generally add logos via embroidery. The front embroidery can be up to 120mm wide x 55mm high. We can also embroider the sides and back of the cap, with the back usually being text only, such as a website URL or slogan. For full colour designs or images that are just not suitable for embroidery we recommend a new decoration option called “supacolour”. This print method allows for sharp, full colour images and even small text that can’t be achieved using embroidery.
Trucker caps – popular and budget friendly
Originating during the 1960s in the United States, the trucker cap has an iconic mesh design that continues to be popular, especially amongst young people. The style is designed to fit almost anyone with its adjustable plastic tab closure known as a “snapback”. Our biggest seller is the classic Foam Mesh Trucker which has a pre-curved peak but flat peak styles are also available – contact us to find out more.
For a modern take on the traditional trucker style take a look at the Premium Soft Cotton Mesh Back cap. This style is a great blend of old and new.
Trucker caps can be embroidered with a logo but are also ideal for “supacolour” logos because of their 5 panel construction with one large panel that sits on the forehead.
Full-brim hats for greater protection
If good sun protection is a must, then you’ll need something with a full brim. Our Heavy Brushed Cotton Bucket Hat is available in sizes XS, S/M and L/XL. It’s a sun-smart option that is popular in schools and at sports events.
And it you need even greater protection from the sun, our Heavy Brushed Cotton Surf Hat has a UPF rating of 50+ (“Excellent Protection”). It also comes in a number of sizes – 55cm, 57cm, 59cm, 61cm and features a cord with a slide toggle to keep it secure. This option is best for outdoor workers like landscapers, builders, road construction and maintenance.
Escape the cold with a beanie
We also have a number of beanie styles to keep out the cold, ranging from a basic acrylic knit to a stylish cable knit, perfect for the ski slopes. Our popular Legend Acrylic Knit Skull Beanie features an acrylic knit in a range of colours that will keep heads warm in winter, while promoting your brand.
Customise your design
For orders of only a few hundred units, headwear can be fully customised in the manufacturing process. For example, you can choose the colour, fabric and style, change the peak, change the closure … there are endless decoration options to choose from. This is a great option if you want to create something truly unique.
